The focus of Jackie's ceramics practice is porcelain, thrown by hand on the potter’s wheel.

I strive for a minimal aesthetic in my work, drawn to clean lines and quiet forms. My approach is designed to highlight the beauty and elegance of porcelain.

The first stage of my process involves throwing a form on the wheel. When the clay has dried to a leather hard stage, the piece is placed back on the wheel and the shape refined (or ‘turned’) using carving tools. It is then left to dry completely, before undergoing its first firing in the kiln to approximately 960°C (the bisque firing). Next a coat of glaze is applied enabling the pot to be used for a functional purpose. It then undergoes its second firing in the kiln to approximately 1290° (the glaze firing). The minimal use of glaze requires a careful attention to detail and a level of finish at the throwing and turning stage that requires precision, as the exposed clay will be visible in the finished piece.
