The Lid Master

Not long after the Giffin Grip was on the market, Brian found another pottery process which needed improvement: measuring calipers. Instead of having multiple pairs of single sided calipers, why not a double ended version that will instantly transfer any measurement to the opposite side. Thus, he developed the Lid Master™, the first double ended caliper for ceramic artists.

An important, yet lesser known feature of the Lid Master is that you can reassemble the screw in the lower set of holes and it instantly shows how much a pot will shrink during firing! This allows you to better estimate the size of your finished work or make lids for already fired pots. With the Lid Master’s 12 1/2% shrinkage ratio there is no need for a conversion ruler.

As the regular Lid Master became known among potters there was a small group that asked for a larger version. To accommodate these potters, Brian designed the Large Lid Master— laser cut out of high quality plastic. It would function in the same way as the regular Lid Master but can measure pots up to 20”.
